Dr. Sridhar Yaratha - Psychiatrist Treating Addiction, Mental Illness

Working in mental health for over two decades, Dr. Sridhar Yaratha began his career as a staff psychiatrist with the Vera French Community Mental Health Center in 2001. With this organization, Dr. Sridhar Yaratha cared for adult inpatients, those in substance abuse units, and those in the adolescent unit.

In 2004, Dr. Yaratha joined Southwestern Virginia Mental Health Institute, where he cared for geriatric patients for a year. He then moved to Central State Hospital in 2006, where he was a forensic psychiatrist. In addition to caring for patients, he served as vice president and president of the medical staff, and was a member of the ARHSC Committee and Chair of the Recovery Committee.

In 2009, Dr. Yaratha began caring for patients with chronic mental illness at Gateway Homes. He continues to do so today. The VA Medical Center hired Dr. Yaratha in 2016 to serve as its director of inpatient psychiatry, a role that involved administrative work in addition to coordinating care for veterans. Some of the work he did with the VA Medical Center included serving as a member of the Medical Executive Board and the Quality Executive Council. He also served on the Medical Records Committee, the External Peer Review Program Committee, and the Strategic Analytics for Improvement and Learning Committee.

Dr. Yaratha was also an associate professor at the VCU Medical Center, where he taught psychiatry to residents and medical students. Some of his accomplishments include receiving the Virginia Commonwealth University Health Systems Psychiatry Resident Teaching Award and a teaching award from the Department of Psychiatry at the VCU Medical School.
